Preludes : Alicia Link and Stephanie Concepcion Ramirez

May 12th - May 31st

Preludes featured a multi-media installation by Alicia Link and Stephanie Concepcion Ramirez. The installation was created to carefully understand the complexities of motherhood while carving a space for those nuances to take form. The installation acknowledged the impact our mothers have on our work and examines how one of the most fundamental relationships grow and wither with time.

There were four boxes that were used as “offerings” in this installation. I lightly coated the boxes with resin to stand the crazy weather throughout the duration of the outdoor show. These “offerings” referring to what is familiar with most transnational families; remittances. My mother providing for both her children here in the US and a child and family members in El Salvador all while being a single parent. These “offerings” are not only to symbolize the materials sent and received but also the sacrifices she made in order to send them and how those familial bonds are affected. - Stephanie Concepcion Ramirez
